About Us

Read Together ATL tutors work one-on-one with the same students throughout the year. This relational element fosters trust and comfort for a greater learning outcome.

What are learned words and why are they important?

Learned words, or high-frequency and sight words, are those that appear most frequently in reading, but do not always follow traditional spelling rules. They must often be memorized, and this makes sight words difficult for children to master. It takes time and effort to learn these words, and many students are behind in their understanding of them.

Because of the frequency with which these words are used, if students are unable to recognize them, they will not read fluently. Fluency is key to reading comprehension.

Learned words are just one piece of literacy, but they have a large effect on reading ability as a whole. If we can equip students to succeed in this area, we are fostering success in their broader education.

As part of our program, we read with students each and every session to ensure that our work goes beyond memorization and carries over into their reading comprehension.
